Research Databases and Magazines

Your library provides you with online access to complete articles from thousands of magazines and journals, and that's just the beginning. Also available are biographies, reports, pamphlets and additional reference materials. (You will need a valid Fairview Heights Library card to access many of these from home. SILC - Statewide Illinois Library Catalog The Statewide Illinois Library Catalog, known as SILC, is Illinois' first all-inclusive statewide union catalog that integrates WorldCat and the Illinios Library Systems' local consortial OPACs to provide  both shelf status and interlibrary loan capabilities in a single searchable interface. From a single WorldCat record, users will be able to link to a local shared catalog record to see if and where an item is available for loan.

New York Times Archives If you are looking for a New York Times article published since Jan. 1, 1981, search the Article Archive: 1981-Present.  Articles are free back to 1987.

Small Business Resource Center  Covers starting and operating a business, includes business journals and a wide selection of sample business plans. 

Illinois Legal Aid Legal information and help for Illinois residents. Focus is on self help for simple divorce, child support/visitation, domestic violence, landlord/tenant plus links to other free legal advice and forms.

Literature/Politics/History

Books & Authors   A searchable database of fiction and non-fiction titles. Contains book reviews, recommended reading lists and books discussion guides.

Literature Resource Center    Contains biographical information about 120,000 authors and critical analysis of their works.

Opposing Viewpoints    Read opinion essays about the big political and social issues of the day.  Includes its own multimedia gallery of still images, film clips, and sound bites.  Great for class assignments.
