Supporting Your Library
How to get involved:
We always need help shelving materials and keeping the library shelves in good order. You can volunteer to do this anytime we are open. Because a lot of bending, stooping and pushing book carts is involved, you need to be in pretty good health. In the summer, the Children's Dept. needs helpers who can assist with arts and crafts, story times, special program days, etc. Contact Carolyn Clark, Head of Youth Services at 489-2072 for details. You can also help the Friends (see below) sort books for their annual book sale.
They are a non-profit group that promotes and supports the library. They meet four times a year on the 4th Friday of January, April, July and October at 1 PM. Meetings are held in the lower level of the library. For more information about the Friends of the Fairview Heights Public Library, please visit their Friends of the Library link.
Donating to the Library
We always appreciate donations of books, magazines and audiovisual items. They must be in good condition and not too out of date. Please call the Circulation Desk (489-2070) for exact details on what we will accept. We do reserve the right to decide whether donated items should be added to the collection or sold at the annual book sale. If you wish, the staff at the circulation desk will give you a donation acknowledgment form. We cannot give appraisals of donated materials.
We will not accept the following:
- Magazines (unless they are crafts, cooking, or home improvement and that are no more than 2 years old)
- Dirty, wet, moldy, stinky items of any kind
- Pamphlets and sales brochures
- Books with torn covers
- Vinyl records
- DVDs, videos or CDs that are damaged or dirty
- Readers Digest Condensed books or any other condensed books
We also accept monetary donations as gifts, memorials or honorariums. A full copy of our Gifts Policy is available at the circulation desk or from the Library Director.
